113. Superdad

In my first year at university I mastered one route home, it wasn't the shortest but by far the easiest and again only route I could remember. Driving home for the summer I was diverted off the motorway just outside of Birmingham and panicking I just continued driving straight on pulling into a service station to call mum in hysterics. Despite the rain and the fact he was already heading home on his motorbike my dad drove up to the service station so I could follow him home. We were ten miles outside of Manchester and before we got anywhere near the correct motorway I'd already relayed the wrong directions to get back to south Wales. My amazing dad didn't complain once, he filled my petrol tank several times and laughed about it when we finally got home.

Growing up he'd spend free weekends at the yard with me, he's disposed of around 45372 spiders, moths, creatures, he used to let me watch south park and pulp fiction and always shared rude jokes about farts and sick and picking your nose much to the joy of my 8 year old self.

When I'd inevitably drunk too much at teenage and testosterone fuelled parties I'd wake up several times in the night to find him sat on the bed making sure I was still ok, even now when I'm homesick or sad or I just haven't skipped back to Wales for a few weeks he sends me pictures of my beloved animals and tells me how proud he is of me every time we speak.

A huge happy Father's day to my truly brilliant dad. X
